Time to Snap!

The clocks have sprung forward, the evenings are already starting to draw out, and hopefully the weather will soon be getting better…hopefully.

So now is a good time to shake off those winter blues, get out and about with your camera and kick-start your photography - and you don’t need to venture too far to find some really good photo opportunities.

Botanic Gardens

Take this image as an example:

Shot in my local park, it shows an avenue of trees lined with a carpet of crocus flowers.

And very nice it is too, but in any situation like this there are always more photographs to be found.

You just need to open your eyes and look for them. Quite often you’ll find plenty right under your nose.

 Botanic Closeup

In this second photograph I have managed to isolate a cluster of 3 flowers and gone in close.

I chose this group because they showed the range of different coloured flower heads quite nicely and, as an added bonus, being three of them they made for a strong triangular composition.

But photography doesn’t just stop with seeing and taking photographs. The advantage of taking digital images is that thanks to even the most basic photo-editing software it is now relatively easy to combine images to make something unique.

From these two images  I was able to simply place the close-up image on top of the wider background scene (which I blurred slightly to throw it into the distance), in order to make the pleasing montage shown below.

So remember, get your camera out, get yourself out, be observant, be creative, and above all else enjoy your photography.
